Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir has alleged that the sand mafia, backed by some “influential people” in the Government, is looting natural resources and “eliminating people” coming in its way.
Addressing a well-attended Congress workers’ meeting in Yellareddy on Wednesday, he said Sonia Gandhi had granted statehood to Telangana moved by the sacrifices of students and youth in the State, but the “foursome” was misusing power. The TRS leadership has ignored its electoral promises and is running the show as it wishes, he said.
Mr. Shabbir said that local MLA E. Ravinder Reddy has been elected four times, but has done precious little for the people. Instead, he has amassed a great amount of wealth and built several houses, he alleged.
He handed over a cheque of ₹1 lakh to the bereaved family of VRA Sailu on behalf of the TPCC and said his alleged murder was an example of the atrocities meted out by the sand mafia, which had “influenced” the administration to declare Sailu’s death as accidental.
DCC president Taher Bin Hamdan, TPCC general secretary G. Gangadhar, former MP Suresh Shetkar and party constituency in-charge N. Surender also spoke at the meeting.
