Only minor tweaks to TSPSC recruitment syllabus

Telangana culture, agitation and its history to be incorporated to some extent

January 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:13 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) Syllabus Committee has reiterated that the syllabus will not see major changes for the new recruitment notifications to be given. But, at the same time, Telangana culture, agitation and its history would be incorporated to some extent.

The decision to not go for a major overhaul was unanimous among the members as candidates have been preparing for the competitive exams since a long time with the existing syllabus.

The Syllabus Committee meeting was held on Saturday to discuss the issues related to syllabus and also to consider representations given by various groups.

The committee member, Chukka Ramaiah, said there was a unanimous opinion on changing the syllabus “but not drastically”.

The change would not be radical denigrating the Andhra culture or its history, but the focus would be on testing the knowledge of the candidates on Telangana culture, geography and geology so that they can contribute better after joining the service.

In future, however, changes should be made to give ample scope for candidates to understand the new State’s culture, language and history that was ignored so far.

Meanwhile, the Telangana State Students’ Joint Action Committee submitted a memorandum to the Syllabus Committee to keep students’ interests in view while revising the syllabus.

TS Students’ JAC convener Dudimetla Balraj Yadav said that they welcomed the introduction of Telangana agitation in the new syllabus, but cautioned that the present syllabus should not be changed drastically.

He said that priority should also be given to the fast-unto-death launched by the Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, as it changed the course of the agitation completely.

Thousands of students have already been preparing for the exams with the existing syllabus and changes should not be detrimental to them.

Mr. Yadav also wanted the TSPSC to release a calendar of recruitments in advance to infuse confidence among youngsters that the government had recognised the urgency of the recruitments.
