While many adults will be tracking election results this Friday, millions of children across the country will savour the day in a different way. And that too, of happenings set in a country far away.
The latest from Green Gold Pictures, the creators of the inimitable and absolutely-loveable Chhota Bheem, features ‘Mighty Raju’ in his first-ever theatrical avatar. Titled Mighty Raju, Rio Calling , the movie is a unique combination of 2-D and 3-D animation, and will hit 300 screens nation-wide.
“Once they walk in, the kids would be transported to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a land where soccer and ‘samba’ are a way of life. Add the Indian ‘samosa’, and we are sure we have a winning combination,” says Rajiv Chilaka, founder and chairman of Green Gold Animation, the parent company. Mr. Chilaka is also the director of the movie, and is co-producing it with Samir Jain.
Why Raju? And what is the movie all about?
“The initial inspiration was Raju, Chhota Bheem’s friend in Dholakpur. We thought it would go well with the audiences because this Raju goes to school in a city and goes to Rio, ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2014. We made him a four-year-old superhero with super-human strength, and a costume that conceals his secret, so much so that even his parents are unaware.”
The movie will be shown in screens in Malaysia, Singapore and West Asia, dubbed in local languages.
“That it revolves around soccer is enough to ensure an almost-universal audience,” Mr. Rajiv sums up.
