Patient services at in-patient, emergency and out-patient facilities took a hit at Osmania General Hospital (OGH) as boycott of duties by nursing students entered the fifth day on Monday. The students are protesting against the proposal to shift the nursing college and hostel from the OGH campus.

Nearly 500 nursing students boycotted their regular classes and medical duties at OGH. Seven students are also participating in a relay hunger strike in front of the nursing college. “We will not allow the shift of nursing college. The government must listen to our demands. A new OGH building should come up, but not at the cost of our college and hostels,” said president, Students Nurses Association, OGH, A. Bhargav Rani.

Meanwhile, the talks between OGH Superintendent Dr. Ram Dass and the striking students failed to yield any positive results. “They are saying that they will shift us to Bandalguda or Uppal Rajiv Swagruha complex. This is ridiculous and we will continue to protest,” the student nurses said.
