Sony Kix, the recently launched sports channel from the Sony stable, will beam live all IPL matches, for the first time, with Telugu commentary.

This apart, the popular satellite TV network will create a stadium like experience, by installing giant screens in Warangal and Guntur for 10,000 people each on select weekends to increase IPL viewership in small cities.

Besides Telugu, commentary in Tamil will be another first this IPL season on the Sony network. On the strategy, Mr. Krishnan, addressing presspersons here on Monday, said language possibly was a factor behind the comparatively less viewership for IPL in many tier-II and tier-III cities.

A case in point was that of Hyderabad and the rest of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Hyderabad, he said, had 25 per cent more viewership than the national average and better than Chennai and Bengaluru.

Warangal and Guntur, he said, figure among 15 locations in the country, where in association with BCCI, Fan Parks will be set up by Sony essentially to screen matches on giant screens. Replete with food and beverage arrangements, the concept will be an attempt to recreate the experience of watching IPL matches in a stadium. Entry will be free.
