A Division Bench of Hyderabad High Court comprising Chief Justice Kalyanjyothi Sen Gupta and Justice P.V.Sanjay Kumar on Tuesday ordered notices on a writ petition seeking a direction to initiate action against Uppuleti Devi Prasad, Commissioner Income Tax (Appeals), for his alleged participation in the elections in which his wife was a candidate.

The writ petition was filed by Varla Ramiah, TDP leader, who lost the election to U.Kalpana of YSRC from Pamarru Assembly segment, Krishna district. The petitioner alleged that Devi Prasad, husband of Kalpana, actively participated in electioneering and misused his official capacity as Commissioner, Income Tax. He averred that though he made complaints to the Central Vigilance Commissioner about his official misuse of power as well as violation of Election Code of Conduct and violation of Service Rules of Government Servants no officer initiated any inquiry. The bench ordered notices and adjourned the case by three weeks.
