North East crafts fair kicks off

North East Handicrafts and Handloom Development Corporation's fair was inagurated on Wednesday.

North East Handicrafts and Handloom Development Corporation's fair was inagurated on Wednesday.

The seven sister States came calling to the city bringing their wares along. The North East Crafts Fair that has been an annual affair kicked off in the city here on Wednesday.

Education Minister D. Manikya Vara Prasad and Mayor Banda Karthika Chandra Reddy inaugurated the fair.

From utility items, drapery, blankets and clothing to showpieces and ornamental jewellery, the exhibition showcased the rich culture of the country's North East. Basketry made of bamboo and cane, bamboo carvings and cane sofa sets caught one's eye on entering the huge hall of Visveswaraya Bhavan at Khairatabad.

A group of artisans will also demonstrate the making of some handicrafts .
