Microsoft Devices, which recently acquired Nokia’s mobile handset business, said there was tremendous growth in the Indian market, specifically in the mid and high-end smartphones – devices priced between Rs.8,000 and Rs.12,000, and upwards of Rs.12,000 onwards respectively.
Talking to reporters after launching the Nokia XL here on Wednesday, Nokia India Director (Sales) Raghuvesh Sarup said the sale of smartphones had grown almost two-and-a half times in 2014 over 2013 figures. The mid-segment was registering even higher growth, he said.
“We launched the X, X+ and now the XL on the Microsoft Windows operating system platform, as part of our strategy to promote Windows on smartphones. The XL runs Android apps and comes with a host of features, including a five-inch capacitive touchscreen, 2 MP front and 5 MP rear camera, and is priced at Rs.11,489,” he said.
Apps like Facebook, LINE, Picsart, Plants vs Zombies 2, Real Football 2014, Skype, Spotify, Swift key, Twitter, Viber, Vine and WeChat come pre-loaded.
