Almost three years after its formation, the Godavari River Management Board (GRMB), established under the provisions of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, is yet to have a full-fledged operational set-up and the working manual.

Draft guidelines

The two member States – Andhra Pradesh and Telangana – agreed at the Friday’s board meeting to give their views on the draft guidelines of the working manual in 10 days. “If they have any objections/suggestions, the board has to discuss them again or else it will be forwarded to the Union Water Resources Ministry for finalisation and notification,” board Chairman S.K. Sahu said after the meeting.

25 posts sanctioned

In addition to the four posts sanctioned by the Centre, under the provisions of the bifurcation act – Chairman, Member-Secretary, Member-Power and Member-Irrigation – the board has sanctioned 25 posts for its functioning.

The two States would depute staff and bear the expenditure in 50:50 ratio.

For the current year, budget of ₹6.5 crore has been sanctioned by the two governments.
