It’s a project that commuters using Mettuguda-Rail Nilayam stretch are looking forward to since long. But the Road-under-Bridge (RuB) work at Alugaddabavi junction is yet to become a reality, thanks to a litigation hanging fire between railway authorities and civic officials.

According to the contract, the railway authorities have to build the RuB structures and civic authorities have to construct the culverts, build underground drainage, and put the metal road. Railway officials completed RuB structures three months, ago and civic authorities too are set to finish the rest of the works in two month’s time, but the RuBs will not be useful till the time extension of road is undertaken on both Rail Nilayam and Mettuguda sides and this is akin to cutting the Gordian knot.

Land acquisition

“We still have to acquire some land to widen the roads on both the sides of the RuB and railway authorities are demanding an amount of Rs. 2 crore for this. We are negotiating to include this acquisition in the original negotiation amount,” Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Chief-Engineer Dhan Singh said.

The civil works inside the RuB structures will be completed within two months, he said.

While the protracted negotiations continue between the two departments, the motorists’ travails continue unabated. “Of the stretch between Habsiguda and Begumpet, Alugaddabavi junction is the only remaining bottleneck. I can only hope that the problem will be addressed soon,” says P. Rama Krishna, a resident of Uppal.

Other motorists also complain about the condition of the current RuBs in the area.

“The road under the RuBs in the area is broken and dangerous especially for the two-wheeler motorists,” K. Ravinder Reddy, a commuter, complained.

“Travelling through this junction has become difficult due to the bad road conditions. The loose gravel creates dusty condition causing sever inconvenience,” he said adding that streamlining this one junction will remove the problems faced by thousands of commuters.
