‘No change in TDP name or symbol’

May 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:00 am IST - HYDERABAD:

There is no question of changing the name of Telugu Desam or its symbol when the party contests elections in other States, senior leader and Andhra Pradesh Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu said on Thursday.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the Mahanadu, he said the TDP would get protection for its symbol when it expands to other States. The TDP is planning to contest from Odisha, Karnataka, Pondicherry and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. “There is no need to change the party symbol or name,” he reiterated.

He said a new party would have to be registered if the party name was changed. He maintained that there was no clash between the TDP and Samajwadi Party.

While there have been suggestions from other States to have a name like Bharat Desam, the TDP is not inclined to change the name.
