No need to change Metro Rail alignment: Bhatti Vikramarka

December 19, 2014 11:58 pm | Updated 11:58 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Secretary of the Telangana Congress Legislature Party, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Friday ruled out the need for a change in alignment of the Metro Rail opposite the Legislative Assembly and expressed doubts over Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao being hell-bent on doing so with political motives in mind.

Accompanied by presspersons, the Congress leader took a ‘critical’ look outside and categorically stated that neither the Assembly building nor the Martyrs Memorial would be affected with the current alignment of the Metro Rail. At some places, he even used a measuring tape to show people that there was enough space by way of height and width to vindicate his point.

“Since the Metro Rail is high above the ground, passengers and tourists will be able to have a clear view of the imposing premises of the Assembly, the Martyrs Memorial and even the statue of Ramananda Tirtha. I have a feeling that Mr. Rao does not want completion of the Metro Rail before elections to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. He probably fears that if it were completed fast, the chances of people voting for the Congress that originally conceived the idea of a Metro Rail, were more,” the Congress leader mused.

“It is clear that politics and elections occupy a high place on Mr. Rao’s agenda and by pressing for a change in alignment, we fear Hyderabad will lose out on its image of being pro-development.
