Recently, when my daughter fell sick, I wanted to take her to Care Hospital, Nampally, which is an 18 kilometre travel for me. For that distance, several auto drivers quoted an exorbitant sum of Rs.500, that too at just 8 p.m. Later, we took a cab and the driver gave me a printed receipt for only Rs.300. When the police are strict in collecting fines for not wearing helmets, not possessing vehicle documents, etc., why aren’t the authorities concerned unable to take any action on auto drivers for not adhering to prepaid rates?

Public nuisance
Unmindful of passersby and the locality’s cleanliness, the habit of public urination near transformers, road corners, closed shops, compound walls, and other places is increasing. It is a nuisance. The government may increase pay and use toilets, but it is up to individuals, particularly men, who must think about the opposite gender and control themselves. Spot fines and mild punishments may change the habit.

Tackle stray dog menace
There are always six or seven stray dogs moving around and authorities failed to catch all of them in their attempts. The animals are a daily nuisance and a danger for many of the morning walkers. Also, the issue is prevalent in most colonies of the twin cities. The authorities should take action on the problem.
