The Archaeology Department has denied anything of the sort of bulldozing of historical sites as part of excavation of megalithic burial complex at Pullurbanda village near Siddipet in Medak
Reacting to a report published in these columns on Saturday, the department maintained that the burial was identified by archaeology experts and taken up for excavation on scientific lines which is a “very slow and long drawn process so as to ensure that the remains/materials/objects/antiquities are not damaged.”
During the scientific excavations, pottery, iron and stone implements were recovered from the site. The cap stones kept on the burials are very heavy and weigh nearly 7 to 8 tonnes which is humanly impossible to lift and it may cause damage to the deposits under the burial. Hence, they are lifted slowly with the help of a crane and there is no “bulldozing”, it said.
However, the department’s statement was silent about damage being done by private parties elsewhere in the district like Venkatapur where Rakshasa Goollu are being damaged. The report published by the newspaper never stated that excavation at Pullur is being bulldozed.
