The administration has been gearing up to declare the district Open Defecation-Free (ODF) by October 2, fulfilling the target of constructing 99,454 Individual Sanitary Lavatories (ISLs).

“Of the total target, 93.55% of ISLs are completed and the rest are at different stages of construction. Bodhan and Armoor towns are already declared ODF and the district headquarters town is all set to become ODF by September 27,” said In-charge Collector A. Ravinder Reddy.

Extensive campaign

An extensive campaign to enlighten people on the need for ISLs has been on and the official teams formed at district, mandal and village levels have been going around supervising the construction, he said, hoping that the task would be completed by the scheduled time.

A team comprising DPO, PD, DRDA and Zilla Parishad CEO at the district level, Tahsildar and MPDO in mandals and village revenue officers and panchayat secretaries at villages have been monitoring the ISL construction in the district.

The State government has sanctioned ₹12,000 for each ISL and if the expenditure goes beyond the sanctioned funds, the individual beneficiary has to bear the differential cost.
