NIMS comes under fire in Council

March 24, 2010 12:26 pm | Updated 12:26 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Members of the Legislative Council expressed concern and anguish over the indifference meted out to the wife of Chukka Ramaiah who was rushed to NIMS with burn injuries and succumbed three days later while undergoing treatment in a corporate hospital.

Tabling an adjournment motion, D. Ramireddy (Teachers) alleged that the doctors did not attend on the patient for about four hours after she was admitted to NIMS on March 15 with 40 per cent burns. They later suggested that she be shifted to a corporate hospital as they had no facilities to treat burn victims. If that was the response given to an MLC and well-known educationist, what would be the fate of commoners, he wondered.

Health Minister D. Nagender said a comprehensive reply about the incident would be given to the members on Thursday and promised to take action for any lapse on the part of the doctors.
