In yet another case of approaching women through matrimonial website and duping them with false claims, city police on Tuesday arrested a Nigerian, Pius.

Along with the foreigner, a mobile phone operator from Tilak Nagar of Delhi Hari Singh Khatter was arrested. Pius got his profile registered with a matrimonial website claiming that he was Deepak Patel, a Non-Resident Indian from the United States of America.

He sent his details to a woman from Hyderabad who too got registered with the same website. He developed friendship with her.

Three months ago, he called her up, stating that he was coming to India to meet her. On April 24, he called her stating that officials caught him at the Delhi airport for a minor violation and he needed ₹45,000 to be set free.

At his request, the woman transferred the sum online to the bank account he had specified. In this fashion, Pius made her transfer ₹2.32 lakh online on different pretexts. On realising that she was cheated, the woman approached Hyderabad Central Crime Station sleuths.

Stitching up leads from the mobile phone call data record, the CCS sleuths traced Pius and arrested him along with Singh who supplied him Subscriber Identity Module cards.

Two held

Uppal police on Tuesday arrested two persons, P. Krupender and D. Srikanth, and recovered 37 kilos of ganja from them.
