A newborn female baby was kidnapped by an unidentified woman from a private hospital at Dayara Market under the Musheerabad police station limits on Monday morning.
Rehana Begum (28) of Bholakpur gave birth to a female baby four days ago at Farah Hospital.
After the delivery, the mother and child were shifted to a room and the child’s grandmother, Ghousia Begum, was accompanying them. On Monday around 6 a.m., the two women and the baby were sleeping in the room, leaving the door partly open when a burqa clad woman entered the room.
She began a conversation with Rehana enquiring about the delivery. Later, when the women fell asleep, the woman took away the baby and escaped.
The child’s mother woke up after a while and was shocked to find the baby missing, according to the police.
A tenant in the hospital building, Shahenaz Begum, claimed to have noticed the woman leaving the hospital. Based on a complaint lodged by the child’s father, Shaik Sadiq, the police booked a case and formed special teams to trace the kidnapper.
Portraits of the abductor were also released. Police said a suitable reward would be given to those who furnish information about the woman on phone number 9490616331.
The hospital had no surveillance cameras, according to ACP Chikkadpally Amarkanth Reddy.
