March 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated April 02, 2016 07:15 am IST - HYDERABAD:

A day after the Congress leadership decided to effect changes in the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee by replacing the incumbent president Ponnala Lakshmaiah with working president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, an official announcement is expected on Monday.

Sources said the AICC general secretary for organisational affairs, Janardhan Dwivedi, is likely to issue the formal orders on Monday naming Huzurnagar MLA Uttam Kumar Reddy as the party president. Madhira MLA and CLP secretary Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka is also expected to be made the working president. Sources said that there would be no change in the CLP leadership, which is headed by K. Jana Reddy.

It is understood that Mr. Ponnala had urged the high command to give him a chance to enter the Legislative Council from the Assembly quota. The Congress can ensure the victory of one candidate to the upper house. At least six vacancies are likely to arise in the Council from the Assembly quota.

Party sources said several seniors were eyeing the lone Council seat, which the party can win. Among them is Leader of the Congress in Council D. Srinivas, whose term will end shortly. Over a dozen others are also trying their luck to get the nod.

A senior TPCC functionary said the AICC leadership had recently asked the State unit to send a list of probables who had worked for the party for more than 10 years but had not been given any post.
