Hyderabad will soon have a new master plan to take care of the crumbling infrastructure and for decongesting the city, said Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development K.T. Rama Rao after inaugurating CREDAI property show on Saturday afternoon in the city.

“Hyderabad has five master plans, and we will amalgamate and incorporate the best to come up with a new master plan within the next three months,” he said.

“Building approval within 60 days is not enough. We are not competing with other cities in the country. We need to aim at approval within 30 days, and we are creating a system for tracking files so that officials are brought in line. We want to be a model State for the rest of the country,” said the Minister.

Mr. Rao said Hyderabad has the highest absorption of office space with 5 million sq. feet being lapped up in 2015.

New districts

Speaking about the new districts that are being carved up in Telangana to improve administration, the Minister said: “Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao wants a decentralised administration where people don’t have to travel far to get their grievances redressed. The new districts are a step in that direction. We will have a comprehensive plan for these new districts so that the mistake of haphazard growth doesn’t bog them down.”

Without spelling out the details, Mr. Rao spoke about a regional ring road. “Hyderabad’s ring road will be complete within the next six months. But what we want is a clutch of satellite townships so that people can live/work/play and decongest the city. Most of the current growth in the IT sector is focussed in the western part of the city. We are willing to incentivise initiatives in other parts of the city,” he said.

2-BHK houses

Addressing CREDAI members, Mr. Rao asked them to step forward for implementing the State government’s pet scheme of 2-BHK apartments for the weaker sections of the society. “It is not enough for you to expect government schemes. You can pay back to the society by coming forth with suggestions and expertise to implement the housing scheme for the poor in urban areas,” he said.

A number of developers affiliated to the trade body are showcasing their properties in the three-day property show at HICC.
