New GHMC panel clears crucial proposals

To seek funds for additional posts in view of the GHMC’s reorganisation

The GHMC Standing Committee on its Thursday meeting, approved a proposal seeking the sanction of ₹98 crore from the State government, as additional expenditure for creation of additional posts in view of the GHMC’s reorganisation.

A total of 1,200 additional posts of officers and staff will be created in view of the Corporation being redrawn into 10 zones and 50 circles.

A resolution was also passed for a separate standing council for Lakes wing of GHMC to tackle the legal issues pertaining to lake development and renovation.

Approval was given for a total funding of nearly ₹18 crore for development of forest block into urban parks at Bowrampet, Nadargul, and Madannaguda.

The project to construct steel plate bridge across the graveyard for smooth flow of traffic between Punjagutta and Banjara Hills, with an expenditure of ₹5.95 crore has been cleared.

The proposal for renovation of Mahbub Chowk (Murgi Chowk) in Laad Bazaar in two floors with an expenditure of ₹36 crore as part of the Charminar Pedestrianisation Project received nod, with a suggestion to explore the possibilities of underground parking in the same complex.

Approval was also given to the proposals to take up works for renovation of Patthargatti stone arcade. Another proposal cleared was to call for tenders for construction of 50 loo-cafes (luxury washrooms) in every zone.

Other resolutions approved include acquisition of 15 properties for road widening at Errum Manzil and seven properties for construction of a vent near the Malakpet Railway Under Bridge, and increase of DA to GHMC employees, in line with the State government employees.

This was the third standing committee with newly-appointed members, a press note informed.
