The Nehru Zoological Park recorded visitors in excess of the 27-lakh mark for the year 2012-13, the highest ever annual figure in the zoo’s history.

On Sunday, the last day of the financial year, the visitor-count for the year stood at 27.41 lakh. The figure for the previous year was 22.35 lakh.

“Over last year, the rise in the number of visitors has gone up by 22.5 per cent,” said P. Mallikarjuna Rao, Director of State Zoos.

The number of visitors to the leisure haunt has been on the rise over the years.

“It is 53.5 per cent more when compared to the year 2009-10 when nearly 17.85 lakh visitors came to the zoo,” Mr. Rao said.
