NDRF called into flood hit areas of Hyderabad

National Disaster Response Force has been called into the flood affected areas of Malkajgiri in Hyderabad on Thursday after heavy overnight rain led to a number of residents getting marooned in their homes.

The worst affected Uppal recorded 11.1 cm of rain while, Malkajgiri logged 10.7 cm in 24 hours.

Water from Banda Cheruvu started flowing through the streets of Anathasaraswathi Nagar, NMDC Colony, East Anandbagh, Sirdisai Nagar and other areas of Malkajgiri. Panic stricken residents took to social media to reach out for help.

Other areas of eastern parts of Hyderabad including Uppal were also flooded forcing residents to leave their homes as water entered parking cellars and first floor homes in low lying areas.

Greater Hyderabad Muncipal Corporation officials moved around 15 families to safety from CBN colony in Lalapet to a function hall.

Morning rush hour traffic was affected due to multiple stagnation points which GHMC staff rushed to clear

GHMC has rushed additional emergency teams from Alwal and Qutubullapur for clearing water inundation area at the down stream of Banda Cheruvu in Malkajgiri.
