Students in large numbers took part in a rally organised by the North American Telugu Association (NATA) from Thousand Pillar Temple to Kakatiya Medical College (KMC) to bring awareness among the youth on impact of drug abuse and liquor consumption.
The rally was flagged off by Commissioner of Police G. Sudheer Babu and NATA founding secretary Pradeep Samala.
The Police Commissioner cautioning the youth said that the drug abuse would ruin the lives of the individuals as well as their families. The liquor consumption was causing road accidents, he said and asked people not to drink and drive.
Mr. Pradeep Samla said that they were conducting these programmes as part of the ongoing NATA Seva Days.
“Youth are the hope of the society. If they tread the right path, society will flourish. Keeping this in mind, we are conducting programmes for the awareness of the youth,” Mr. Pradeep said.
Seminars on five topics – Women’s empowerment will lead to social development, Road safety and drunk driving, Drug abuse prevention approaches, strategies and solutions, Student uplift in globalization era and Transforming youth into responsible citizen and engaging them in developing nation – were organised at the KMC’s NRI Auditorium. Selected meritorious students were given cash prizes at the programme.
Cultural programmes and felicitation to the folk artistes were organised at the Public Garden in Hanamkonda in the night. The NATA president-elect Gangasani Rajeshwar Reddy, comedian Ali, members of the NATA and others attended the programme.
