The National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) and Blockchain Research Institute (BRI) of Canada have decided to work together for blockchain technology adoption and deployment in India, including setting up a centre of excellence.

On Wednesday, the two entities signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to co-invest for boosting activities and developing skill-sets for blockchain adoption and deployment in the country.

The MoU would facilitate knowledge sharing in terms of case studies by BRI for like-minded Indian organisations and government departments wanting to deploy blockchain.

The entities also propose to establish a centre of excellence in India that would provide high-end technology capabilities, expertise, thought leadership and curated programmes to explore the adoption of blockchain across academia, enterprises, government, innovators and advanced start-ups. The MoU was signed on the sidelines of the Nasscom India Leadership Forum and WCIT in the city on Wednesday, a release from the IT industry body said.

With blockchain becoming a transformative technology for businesses, the MoU with BRI would foster work collaboration focused on the creation of a world-class sustainable blockchain ecosystem in India.

Nasscom chairman Raman Roy said, “It would help enhance our vision for a digital economy. It is imperative that we identify key application opportunities, issues, strategies and approaches that enable companies and governments to capitalise on this emerging technology.”

“We strongly believe that India has the potential to lead the blockchain revolution,” said founder and executive chairman of BRI Don Tapscott. BRI is a think tank established in partnership with Government of Canada, other government bodies and private sector companies to bring together the top minds in public and private sector research to build blockchain-based economies around the world.
