The Communist Party of India has charged the Central government with miserably failing to fulfil the promises including the assurances given to Telangana in the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014.
The TRS-led government in Telangana too failed to mount pressure on the Centre to implement the assurances given to the State, it said. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao was in fact supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the Centre, said party central secretariat member K. Narayana. He wondered as to why the Chief Minister was going soft on the Centre and the Prime Minister at a time when they ignored the State’s interests.
Mr. Narayana suspected the TRS had entered into a tacit understanding with the Centre and was, hence, soft-pedalling on the Narendra Modi government. “This was evident from the manner in which the TRS, along with AIADMK, behaved in Parliament after the Opposition tabled a no-confidence motion against the Modil government. The TRS government should at least now mount pressure on the Centre to take steps to fulfil assurances like steel factory in Bayyaram, railway coach factory in Kazipet, bifurcation of the high court and others,” he opined.
Mr. Narayana led the CPI cadre in organising a jail bharo in the city in protest against the Centre’s “indifference” in fulfilling the assurances given to the State. The CPI leaders and cadre, who assembled in front of the district collectorate, raised slogans against the government.
As traffic in the area was disrupted because of the protest, the police arrested the CPI central secretary and his supporters. They were released later.
Similar protests were held in all the other districts of the State with participation of over 10,000 CPI activists. The party claimed that over 4,300 activists were arrested by the police in different parts of Telangana.
