A final year student of the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research died following a fall from the water tank on the academy premises here at Shamirpet on Thursday morning.

The body of 22-year-old G. Venkatrami Reddy, son of IAS officer, Chandigarh cadre, G.P. Reddy, was found around 8.30 a.m. by co-students. The police suspect it to be a case of suicide but said no note was found.

The student hailing from Hyderabad was residing at the Academy hostel and pursuing a five-year degree programme in law. “After speaking to the co-students and the academic staff, we learnt that he was reportedly in depression about his performance in the recently completed exams,” Shamirpet Inspector, P. Ramakanth Rao, told The Hindu over the phone.

The police are also verifying reports that problems in personal life drove the student to resort to such an extreme step. A case of suspicious death under section 174 of criminal procedure code was registered. The body was shifted to Gandhi morgue for the autopsy.
