The question making the rounds in the film industry and political circles about when actor and Jana Sena founder Pawan Kalyan would enter active politics seemed to have been answered, if the candid admission made by him is any indication.
He more or less made it clear that he would enter politics and reach out to people about a year or so before the general elections of 2019. The candid admission came on the sidelines of the ‘pooja’ and ‘muhurat’ of his next film, on Wednesday.
During an informal chat with the actor, it became apparent that he was serious about entering politics.
It was in tune with his recent remarks just a few days before the release of his latest movie Sardaar Gabbar Singh . Mr. Pawan then had said he wanted to get into politics soon and he would only do ‘one or two films more’.
When prodded, he said if a story was good, he would do a film anyway, but said he was worried for people.
Asked to elaborate, he explained that he was worried about the goings-on in the society these days. He said he was not worried about winning or losing, but when the struggle – meaning his entry into active politics, was launched, it would be a long-drawn-out battle.
“But I am not sure if I am ready for it now, considering my resource base. I may probably come out in the open - the battleground, a year before the general elections,” he said. When reminded of the craze that people, fans apart, apparently had for him and his struggle for social justice, Mr. Pawan said that was fine, but he needed more resources.
Did he ever feel he had reached a tipping point that made him think of something radically different from what went on these days, be it in politics or films? “No. Tipping point or freezing point, I am not worried. I will take the plunge only when I feel I am fully capable of taking it and cent per cent confident in any situation,” he said.
