The AP Unemployed Struggle Committee has opposed the government proposal to enhance the age for superannuation for employees from 58 to 60 years, saying it was not desirable and would affect the prospects of thousands of unemployed youth.
In his letter to Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, president, State BCs Association, and also the committee, R. Krishnaiah, said about 22 lakh youth belonging to the BCs, SCs, Scheduled Tribes, as also those below the poverty line, had completed their studies and were looking for government jobs.
He pointed out that creation of new jobs apart, nearly eight lakh out of the approximately 11 lakh government employees were less than 50 years-old and were hence against the proposal of enhancing the age because it would also affect their own promotions.
Mr. Krishnaiah said the Struggle Committee would launch an agitation if government decided to go ahead with the proposal.
