A plan is on the anvil to expand the specialised services of SHE teams, the dedicated force constituted to curb crimes against women, to Wyra, Madhira and Sattupalli mandals soon.

Prompted by the positive response from people to the SHE teams in checking eve-teasing and other forms of harassment of women under Khammam police commissionerate limits, the police higher-ups have mooted a plan to introduce SHE team services in various other parts of the district.

According to police sources, a total of 15 cases of eve-teasing and 170 petty cases were registered by the SHE teams since their introduction in the town two years ago.

Awareness campaign

Around 200 persons, mostly comprising youth, were counselled and let off as part of special drives against eve-teasing so far in the town, sources added.

Personnel of the SHE teams have initiated an awareness campaign under the supervision of Khammam Police Commissioner Tafseer Iqbal in educational and coaching institutions to highlight the services of the dedicated force to enlist support of all sections to curb all kinds of atrocities against women.

The campaign has been designed to help women in distress seek the support of SHE teams by either dialling the emergency number “100” or making complaints by using WhatsApp number 9100685411.

The police higher ups have drawn up plans to allot additional vehicles to the SHE teams to be constituted elsewhere in the Khammam police commissionerate limits to enable the teams respond swiftly to the complaints from women in distress.
