The State government will soon have a trained pool of digital experts to keep its official database safe from hackers and cyber criminals. An MoU to set up a cyber security academy that will train cyber warriors was signed between the State’s department of IT and C R Rao Advanced Institute of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science, here on Monday.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed as part of the State government’s Swachh Digital project that is meant to ensure cyber security and clean Information Technology. The State government also signed MoUs related to environmental protection in IT corridors and ‘Make in Telangana’ project at an event that was held at Tech Mahindra campus in Hyderabad.

Currently, the country has just 6,000 personnel who specialise in safeguarding government databases as against over one lakh such professionals that countries including China have, officials informed at the ceremony.

Speaking at the meet, former Reserve Bank of India Governor and chairman of the C R Rao Institute, C. Rangarajan, said that cyber security needed to be strengthened to protect confidential records.

Green IT Corridor

The State government is planning to develop 6.8 million sq ft in its IT corridor into a ‘green zone’ where buildings are remodelled to suit the demands of the environment. At the Swachh Digital Telangana meet, the State government, in collaboration with the Department of Economic Cooperation and Development, Embassy of the Federation Republic of Germany, also launched the climate change adaptation for industrial parks. IT corridors in the State will follow environmental management, restructuring of existing buildings, waste management, storm and rain water management and cycling to work. Nasscom foundation and the Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation released a feasibility report for e-waste management.

Samsung electronics agreed to open a digital academic to offer young students a skill development course based on its Tizen Operating System platform. The training will be facilitated through Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge of the State government.
