February 26, 2015 03:48 pm | Updated October 05, 2016 02:18 pm IST - KHAMMAM:

A 21-year-old woman allegedly slit the throat of her baby boy with a blade before attempting suicide at Gandlagudem village in Aswaraopet Mandal on Thursday. Sources said that Priyanka, 21, of Gandlagudem allegedly attacked her three-month-old son with a blade, inflicting serious injuries on the baby’s neck.

She allegedly tried to commit suicide by slitting her throat open with the same blade, sources added. She resorted to the drastic step due to family feuds. Her husband and mother-in-law were away from home when the incident occurred around noon.

The neighbours shifted the injured mother-son duo to a hospital in Khammam. The condition of the duo was stated to be stable. The local police have initiated a detailed probe into the incident to establish the exact reason, which allegedly prompted the woman to resort to the “extreme act.”
