A message sent using WhatsApp messenger from the mobile phone of an undertrial prisoner Fahiuddin Qureshi, who escaped from the State-run Institute of Mental Health (IMH) at Erragadda a few weeks ago, enabled the city police to trace his hideout and nab him on Monday.
Qureshi of Nampally, the undertrial prisoner of Chanchalguda jail, was admitted to the IMH as he was suffering from ‘psychological disorders’. He made a hole to the wall below the window using an oxygen cylinder and escaped with 10 other inmates.
Police managed to catch all of them at different places while Qureshi was still at large.
Since then, two special teams have been searching for him at different places. As he was regularly changing his mobile phones and hideouts, the police could not trace him.
Tourist tripsAfter the daring escape from the institute, he is said to have left the city along with his second wife. A few days ago he visited Agra and took photographs with his second wife. The same were later sent to his first wife using WhatsApp messenger. She informed the police who, in turn, traced his hideout and nabbed him.
Qureshi told the police that he visited religious as well as popular tourist places in the country. He went to Ajmer, Haridwar, Shimla, Kashmir, Delhi, Agra and other tourist spots. Police said his friendship with several persons while participating in arms wrestling came in handy during this period. “We are questioning him to collect more information about those who helped him to escape from the city and also those who provided him shelter,” a senior police official said.
