Minister for Information Technology and Panchayat Raj K.T. Rama Rao spoke to YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy over phone on Thursday and sought the support of the latter to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in the biennial elections to the Legislative Council in the MLAs’ quota.
The ruling TRS is on an exercise to mobilise support for its five candidates contesting the elections as it is short of numbers for ensuring the win of all the five candidates. Mr. Rama Rao has already spoken to the MIM, which has seven MLAs and CPI and CPI (M) parties, which have one each, in the Telangana Assembly.
The YSR Congress officially has three MLAs but two of them have already switched sides to TRS. According to Mr. Rama Rao’s office, the YSR Congress president has responded positively to the request of the TRS. Polling for six vacancies in the Legislative Council is scheduled on June 1. The Congress and TDP have fielded one candidate each.
