Highlighting the problems faced by commuters in the Secunderabad Cantonment areas due to closure of roads by the Army, the Joint Action Committee of Welfare Associations of Alwal, Malkajgiri and Yapral here, said the residents in and around Balaji Nagar had to travel 8-10 km extra every day due to the closed roads.
The issues were brought to light when MLC N. Ramchandra Rao visited Yapral and Bolarum areas here a couple of days ago to understand the problems faced by civilian residents owing to the closure of roads by the Army.
Residents apprised him of their daily hardships while commuting through places like Balaji Nagar.
Two examples residents pointed out were the Eagle Chowk and Bison Gate junctions, which have been closed, and had resulted in them facing hardship while going towards Secunderabad, said a press release from the association.

The Joint Action Committee also mentioned that civilians in Yapral and Balaji Nagar area are now unable to reach St. Ann’s School, Alwal Rythu Bazar and hospitals and other institutions on the Rajiv Rahadari route.
Others staying in Bolarum face difficulties in reaching places like the Valerian Grammar School, Bhawans School, Indus School etc.
Mr. Rao visited the closed roads and also the Lakdawala junction on Rajiv Rahadari to see first hand the difficulties faced by civilians.
