Health Minister C. Laxma Reddy inspected the newly inaugurated facilities at Niloufer Hospital on Tuesday.

Dr. Reddy visited the maternal ICU in the hospital’s intensive care block and also inspected the blood bank. He later interacted with the media, where he spoke about maternal deaths at the hospital and in the State this year.

When asked about Niloufer deaths, Dr. Reddy said that drugs were not to be blamed, but did delve into details of the deaths which were enquired into by the district Collector. However, the State had recently replaced stock of eight drugs from three drug manufacturers and some government doctors attributed the deaths to the drugs . The Minister was also greeted by some doctors affiliated to the Telangana Government Doctors’ Association, who are demanding more recruitment and better pay. The doctors have been protesting by abstaining from work for one hour every day. The Minister appealed to the doctors to call off their protest.
