A delegation of Majlis legislators on Saturday met City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma and demanded a thorough probe into the role of a goldsmith, who was caught by the public for creating trouble after Friday prayers near Charminar.
Speaking to The Hindu , Charminar legislator Ahmed Pasha Quadri said though people caught Vijay Kumar red-handed, police let him off. “The Commissioner has assured us of a fair enquiry into the episode,” he said.
Vijay, wearing a black shirt and an Islamic religious pendent, was allegedly spotted running away from the mob.
Cases registered
A case has been registered against Vijay at Moghalpura police station following a complaint by Majlis corporator Mohd. Ghouse, who said the man shouted slogans and pelted stones at the crowds.
Additional DCP (South) K. Babu Rao said that police are probing Vijay’s role in the violence.
“We are analysing his phone call records and examining video footage,” he said.
Manhunt launched
Meanwhile, the Moghalpura police registered two more cases in connection with the violence. Seven persons, including four cops, were injured in the stone-pelting.
Three vehicles were damaged by the mob.
“We launched a manhunt to apprehend the persons responsible for the violence,” said Moghalpura PS Inspector G. Naveen Kumar.
