The Chief Secretary-led Special Task Force on the Metro Rail project at a high-level meeting on Monday directed the traffic police to allow barricading of six more stretches for the construction of piers.
These are: S.R Nagar-Punjagutta, Moosarambagh-Malakpet, Hitec City-Jubilee Hills Check Post, Mettuguda-Sangeet junction; DCP North office-Parade Grounds, Rasoolpura-HPS Begumpet-Greenlands.
Minnie Mathew’s appeal
Chief Secretary Minnie Mathew wanted small stretches having traffic bottlenecks to be left out.
Paid parking in front of shops where the works were going on should be cancelled and strict traffic enforcement measures should be taken up by the GHMC and the traffic police for better traffic movement.
While congratulating Metro Rail officials for the project being selected as the world’s best engineering project of the year award at the Global Infrastructure Leadership Forum recently held in New York, she called for a coordinated action by all government departments as construction had reached the core area.
Hyderabad Metro Rail MD N.V.S. Reddy informed the meeting that 22 km or 30 per cent of the three Metro Rail corridors of the 72 km have been barricaded with works on between Nagole-Mettuguda, Miyapur-SR Nagar, LB Nagar-Moosrambagh and Begumpet.
About 506 pillars, 626 foundations and 2,276 segments were completed.
Ms. Mathew called upon Collectors of Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts and GHMC to speed up road widening through acquisition of properties.
The concessionaire -- L&TMRH was asked to furnish stretch-wise construction programme with minimum period of barricading in the core city.
