The Nagole-Mettuguda segment of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project will be completed by 2014-end, well ahead of the original schedule, announced Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan.
In his customary address to the Legislature on the opening day of the budget session on Wednesday, Mr. Narasimhan put the revised cost of the project at Rs. 14,132 crore and said work was “progressing briskly” on all segments of the project, being implemented for a length of 71 km.
Work was also being expedited for completion of the 158-km long Outer Ring Road project taken up at a cost of Rs. 6,786 crore. Similarly, Phase III of the Krishna Drinking Water Scheme (cost Rs. 1,670 crore) was being speeded up.
Drinking water scheme
Likewise, works were progressing on Phase I of the Godavari Drinking Water Supply Scheme taken up to bring 172 million gallons per day to the city.
An Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) would be developed with the establishment of IT units over an area of 202 sq. km in and around Hyderabad (Urban) and Ranga Reddy districts, the Governor said.
