A citizens’ group campaigning for better public transport in the city has appealed to Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to appoint an independent expert committee to review the Hyderabad Metro Rail project.
Addressing a press meet on Monday, Citizens for Better Public Transport in Hyderabad reminded Mr. Rao of his “open opposition” to the ‘demolition’ of Sultan Bazaar on the proposed Corridor-II (JBS-Falaknuma) of the project. Citing destruction of heritage, they demanded the scrapping of the line and also three Government Orders (GO), which they said violated the concession agreement.
The group’s convenor C. Ramchandraiah said the new government needs to build an Integrated Bus Terminal at the old Gandhi Hospital land. He has also demanded that HMR Managing Director N.V.S. Reddy be removed for the lack of ‘transparency’ in the project.
