Hyderabad-based Muslim Educational Social and Cultural Organisation (MESCO) has proposed to set up 50 model schools in educationally backward blocks of UP, Haryana, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Assam. This is part of the Government of India’s scheme to provide quality education to talented children in backward areas.
Under the scheme, 6,000 model schools are planned across the country as benchmark of excellence. Of this, 2,500 will be set up in educationally backward blocks. In the first phase, government has decided to go for 500 schools under the public private partnership (PPP) mode. A notification in this regard was issued recently.
Mesco, which runs a string of schools and colleges in the city, has set its sight on 50 model schools in north India. It plans to rope in local voluntary organisations for setting up the model schools.
Mesco has already established five schools in Amroha, Sashwan, Kannauj, Tawra and Bijnoor in UP and plans five more in Mewat, Nuh, Sohna, Ferozpur Jihrka and Dhauj by the next academic year. “Given our experience in the field of education, we are confident of getting selected,” said Fakhruddin Mohammed, chairman, Mesco.
The model schools are being fashioned on the lines of Kendriya Vidyalayas.
