Mercedes launches SUV

Luxury car maker Mercedes Benz launched its “most premium” sports utility vehicle (SUV) the arresting GL-class here in Hyderabad on Wednesday. Film actor Srikanth did the honours at its showroom in Jubilee Hills.

With interiors that take one's breath away, the swish muscular seven-seater comes loaded with features that assure a safe and smooth driving experience, hallmark of any Benz. The GL-class boasts of electrically-foldable third row seats that can be folded at the press of a button to create a flat surface. It is spacious enough with generous headroom and legroom space and door angle of up to 64 degrees. A fixed panoramic sunroof over the third row seats ensures connect with nature besides enhancing the sense of spaciousness.

With 510 Nm torque flowing from its GL 350 CDI Blue Efficiency engine; it can accelerate from zero to 100 kmph in 9.5 seconds flat. The company claims its fuel consumption to be around 9.7 litres for 100 kilometres.

“The initial response is very good. We already have orders for five to six cars by customers who did not even have a look at it,” said Yashwant Jhabakh, chairman, Mahavir Motors, Mercedes Benz's dealer for passenger vehicles in the State. The company is aiming at putting 25 of these SUVs on road by December. The GL-class comes in two variants: GL Executive priced at Rs.68.73 lakh and GL-Luxury priced at Rs.73.82 lakh (both ex-showroom Hyderabad).

Fully loaded

It features Downhill Speed Regulation that regulates speed on slopes, hill-start assist, speed-sensitive power steering and reversing camera. It also comes loaded with Command Aps with six-disc DVD changer, rear entertainment system and infrared headphones from Mercedes Benz accessories.
