The All India Congress Committee in-charge for Telangana Congress, R.C. Khuntia has ruled out any dissent in the party and said anyone can meet Rahul Gandhi, but that opportunity should not be used to spread rumours about party or the leaders.
Strict disciplinary action would be initiated against such people, he warned at the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) meeting here on Thursday evening.
His remarks came in the backdrop of some leaders meeting Mr. Gandhi and informing a section of media that they had complained against TPCC President N. Uttam Kumar Reddy.
Mr. Khuntia later speaking to mediapersons said that there were no plans to replace Mr. Uttam Reddy and the party would go to 2019 polls under his leadership. Mr. Uttam Reddy said the party would ensure registration of party activists from booth level on the Shakti App before June 30.
Earlier, the Telangana PCC meeting called for intensifying the party programmes to expose ‘corruption’ in the State government while there was a heated debate on appointing presidents for the newly created districts.
While the existing presidents wanted the old system to continue some others argued that all new districts should have individual presidents to take the party programmes forward. However, it was decided to have a full-fledged meeting on the issue later.
Fireworks were expected at the meeting in view of some leaders’ visit to New Delhi to greet Mr. Rahul Gandhi on his birthday and the subsequent reports in media that it was also used to lodge complaints against Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee leadership.
However, except D.K. Aruna, who questioned the joining of party leaders from erstwhile Mahabubnagar district without the knowledge of senior leaders, nothing much was discussed on it. Mr. Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, MLC, wanted the party to expose the State government on its failure to get the promises made under the A.P. Reorganisation Act fulfilled.
Mr. Sravan Dasoju, Chief spokesperson suggested the party take up the categorisation of reservations of BCs in the Panchayat Raj polls.
