Meet on safe and legal migration from today

The first-of-its kind two-day regional workshop on safe and legal migration is scheduled to begin in the textile town on Wednesday.

Principal Secretary (Labour and Employment) Shashank Goel will inaugurate the workshop, which would discuss various issues about the migration. An illustrated handbook and a poster in Telugu on the rights and responsibilities of migrant women domestic workers prepared by UN Women and Indian Centre for Migration (ICM) would be officially released on the occasion.

Regional Passport officer E Vishnu Vardhan Reddy said that a special passport camp would be also conducted on Wednesday and Thursday for the benefit of people of Rajanna-Sircilla district and adjoining Siddipet, Kamareddy and Jagtial districts.

The Ministry of External Affairs, in collaboration with State government and Telangana Overseas Manpower Company Limited (TOMCOM), UN Women and ICM, is organizing the first-of-its-kind regional workshop on safe and legal migration as a follow up to the first MEA–State outreach conference held in May in Hyderabad under Videsh Sampark series and its main objectives are to generate greater awareness on all aspects of migration as well as to support local capacity building efforts for promoting safe and legal migration.
