Twenty two students studying first year and second year medicine at Kakatiya Medical College were placed under temporary suspension after they were found violating several rules of the college.

The students celebrating birthday of a third semester student reportedly consumed alcohol and marijuana at the freshers’ block hostel building on Tuesday night.

The incident came to light late.

The warden who went round the hostels on Tuesday night found them locked from the inside and when he returned to the hostels in the morning and went to the rooms of the students he found that they were under influence of alcohol.

Rules violated

However, College Principal K. Chandrashekar said the college administration did not find any traces of marijuana in the room though he conceded that the students had been drinking liquor. The students had violated regulations. Seniors in the college are barred from entering the juniors’ block during night and the students cannot bring outside food into the hostel.

Finding fault with the security personnel for allowing the seniors into the hostel room during night and also allowing liquor and outside food, three security personnel were also suspended.

Inquiry ordered

The principal said the parents of the 22 errant students were notified about their behaviour and they have been placed under temporary suspension. “We constituted an inquiry committee to look into the matter and asked it to submit a report by December 5. We will take action against the students after we receive the report,” the Principal said.
