Mayor wants desiltation works expedited

Mayor Mohammed Majid Hussain inspected the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) desiltation initiatives in Nampally on Monday and had expressed dissatisfaction over the progress of works. Officials concerned were told to complete them in proper manner to avoid inconvenience to the citizens.

Accompanied by Nampally MLA, Jaffer Hussain Meraj and GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar, the Mayor inspected works in Chintal Basthi, Vijay Nagar Colony and Mallepally and directed the officials to take back the ward office premises at Chinthal Basthi from the Police Department for use by the civic body.

The city planning wing was asked to take steps for demolishing the dilapidated structure at Setwin behind Mahaveer hospital and acquire the property for setting up a new building for the GHMC. Following a proposal for construction of a foot-over-bridge at Mahaveer Hospital, the officials were instructed to study the feasibilities and the visit also covered the nalas behind the Hussaini Masjid, Laxminagar and near Labour Adda in Vijaynagar colony. A proposal was also made to raise the height of the retaining wall at Habeebnagar nala to avoid overflow and taking up immediate desilting works near Riyan Hotel.

Slaughter house

The Mayor also inspected the trial runs at Ramanthpur slaughter house and directed its functioning by the weekend. The contractor was asked to complete the work and hand it over within the next three days. He was unhappy with the progress of the Amberpet slaughter house and noted that a heavy fine was also imposed. He was assured that the slaughter house would be ready by July 15, a press release said.
