Mayor B. Kartika Reddy has expressed her unhappiness over functioning of the health wing, especially with regard to ban on plastic in spite of specific instructions given earlier to all the medical officers to strictly implement the plastic ban on carry bags of below 40 microns size.
She pointed out to the health officials at a meeting that petty shops, fruit and vegetable vendors were continuing to use carry bags of below 40 microns and asked the officials to nab the persons who were continuing to sell the banned carry bags. She regretted that the usage of below 40 microns carry bags was more in core area of GHMC than the peripheral areas.
Ms. Reddy called upon the medical officers to take up vigorous raids and surprise inspections to bring a change within a week's time or she declared that she would be “forced” to start surprise inspections and to take initiation against officials for their “negligence”.
She was also unhappy with the functioning of the enforcement wings.
The Mayor has called upon officials to encourage colony residential associations to begin using the two bin system where the household garbage is segregated to dry and waste material for easy disposal. She also wanted circle wise information of public conveniences to be submitted in the next standing committee meeting. All the banners erected should be removed within two days to give the city a neat look.
Additional Commissioner (Health & Sanitation) S. Aleem Basha was told to prepare an action plan for conducting health camps to tackle dengue and other communicable diseases. Mr. Basha informed her that 2,600 public and private schools were covered as part of the anti-mosquito measures including spraying DDT.
A sum of Rs. 20 lakh was allotted to hire additional vehicles in the old city for lifting animal waste for Bakrid. A separate trench was also made to accommodate the animal waste in Jawaharnagar dumping yard.
