A mason allegedly throttled his four-year-old son to death before attempting suicide by slitting his throat in their house at Champapet of Saidabad on Thursday, police said.

Twenty-eight-year-old M. Satyanarayana’s wife Srilaxmi went to her parents’ house a few days ago following differences with him, leaving their son Sri Venkata Sai with him.

Since then, the mason’s mother Nagamani, working as an attendant in Springdale School at Gaddiannaram, was looking after the boy studying in LKG in the same school.

The woman came to her son’s house in the morning to help the boy get ready for school, but found the doors bolted, Saidabad Inspector A. Srinivasulu said.

She alerted the house owner and they managed to open the door by inserting a rod through the window. To their shock, they found the boy lying dead while his father was in an unconscious state with wounds on throat and the left wrist.

A case of murder and suicide was registered against the mason, the police said.
