A Chhattisgarh-based Maoist, wanted in as many as four murder cases, including in the killing of Greyhounds Inspector K Varaprasad in Puvvarthi forest area in neighbouring Chhattisgarh in 2013, was apprehended by the Charla police at Unjupalli near the inter-State border with Chhattisgarh on Monday morning.
Police identified the arrested Maoist as Madivi Chukka alias Diwakar, 28, an Area Committee Member of the outlawed organisation. He belongs to Pujarikanker village in Usoor Block of Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh.
Police sources said Chukka was nabbed from the Unjupalli forest area during an area domination operation by a joint team of Charla police and the CRPF men early on Monday morning. The arrested Maoist has ten cases of Maoist violence pending against him under the jurisdictional limits of Charla, Dummugudem and Venkatapuram police stations.
Police said he was one of the accused in the killing of a homeguard attached to Dummugudem police station at the pilgrim centre of Parnashala in Bhadrachalam division in 2013. He was active as a member of the Maoist area committee in the restive areas along the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border, police added.
