Though the King of Fruits is yet to flood the markets in the State as the seasonal conditions had not been ideal, delaying the flowering and harvesting phases, the yield of mango is expected to touch 39 lakh tonnes, slightly higher than last year.
Mango orchards raised in about 4.53 lakh hectares in the State are expected to yield 39 lakh tonnes, compared to 35 lakh tonnes last year.
Despite the impact of the recent unseasonal rains and gales on the orchards to some extent, there is no likelihood of a significant decline from the expected yield, according to Horticulture Department officials.
Arrivals begin
The mango season has just begun with the Rasaalu arriving in the markets in the coastal districts. Usually, the fruit ripens and matures naturally by the end of April and thus tastes better than the early stocks which are artificially ripened.
